Real estate scam? The purchase of a hotel room in a Cancun resort?
Financial people, please advise! Recently someone close to me was contacted by phone “based on their finances” and offered the opportunity to participate in the share-holding of a new hotel/resort in Cancun, Mexico. I have actually seen similar opportunities advertised in USA Today and various semi-reputable magazines. It works sort of like a time share. You pay to help construct the hotel (shares are $45000 each) and in the end you come out “owning” a hotel room in the resort when it’s constructed. It functions similarly to the construction of any new condo building in New York (I live here– i know). They’re basically selling pre-purchases. However, it is run by this group www.fdggroup.com and funds are being organized by this group www.panamalaw.org (which is hosted by an anonymous web host in Singapore). I find it particularly strange that they were cold called for this and it just gives me a bad feeling. There is a cease and desist in TX for the ad placements. Help?????
