Is there any real benefit to marriage?
I have had a live in girlfriend for 11 months, and we have known each other for over 2 years. People ask me, “When are you going to make an honest woman out of her?”
I have considerable financial resources (patents, real estate, stocks, trusts). I have even talked about marriage with my girlfriend, and she is totally agreeable to signing a prenuptial agreement. Neither of us are in a rush to get married.
Is there any benefit to me in getting married?
Oh, and the other part of the equation is that neither of us want children.
As to the medical issue, on my end, I have already given instructions to my attorney that if anything should happen to me… pull the plug.
As to my girlfriend, I trust her family, and would allow them to make decisions on her behalf. Her family and I have a mutual respect.
As to the health insurance, I own my own company and provide health insurance for myself and my employees. I could easily add my girlfriend, if necessary.
A Lot of info we didn’t need, but I agree with one who alluded to eye of the beholder, though wouldn’t have stated it that way.
Obviously “marriage” doesn’t carve happiness into granite, as our national statistics for failures show, and benefits might be relative, subjective, interpretive, and individually defined.
“Make an honest woman of her” is about as dumb a cliche as can be said, gee.
